Aloha and Happy Monday,
I trust everyone had a relaxing weekend.
I hope you did, especially with all of the excitement and activity that will be upon us this week as the world’s eyes all turn to Hawaii with the arrival of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.
Among the many dignitaries in attendance at this historic event will be the President of the United States and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. It is a unique opportunity for us to showcase Hawaii to the world as a first-class destination, not just for tourism but as a prime location to host international events.
That said, we must all work together this week to ensure the logistical challenges in front of us do not detract from the positive impact these meetings will have. Necessary security measures dictate we must all be flexible in our travel routines. It’s said, “fortune favors the prepared,” and this week is no exception. I have found three web links that will serve you well regarding the changes with traffic you can expect in and around Waikiki:
Visit http://ow.ly/7kU3f for a map of Waikiki roads that will be affected during APEC. The http://ow.ly/7kU5V link shows you all the roads where street parking will be affected. If these are roads you usually depend on for your parking, I advise you find alternate locations during this week. Finally, http://ow.ly/7kU78 is a map of suggested traffic routes for tomorrow through next Sunday, with colored arrows directing you based on where your destination is if you have to travel in or through Waikiki.
Let’s all think aloha, remember to plan ahead and be aware of APEC-related changes to your normal routines and routes.
Here’s hoping your Monday is off to a productive and happy start.
Best,
MG (ret.) Bob Lee
